Called To Serve: Meet Kathryn

The voices and needs of our participants are our foremost concern. But nurturing a culture of innovation, talent, diversity, and inclusion is a priority, too.

It’s one of the many things that make ECS a great place to work. To ensure that the services we provide are results-oriented and of the highest quality, we employ 150 part- and full-time staff members. We rely on hundreds of volunteers each year to help us in this work. And we host master- and bachelor-level interns from regional universities and colleges each year.

Kathryn, a recent graduate of Lock Haven University, spent her last semester interning with our inclusion and advocacy department. Below she shares what she gained from her time with ECS and what she looks forward to in the future.

“My internship at Episcopal Community Services in Philadelphia was like nothing I could have ever imagined. I learned so much over my 430-hour placement, not only about the nonprofit sector but also about myself as a professional. I was given the opportunity to realize my interest in macro-level social work and gain a better understanding of policies and practices.

It was an extremely rewarding experience to be able to learn from the knowledgeable professionals in the agency. I was always encouraged to participate in anything I was curious or interested in, allowing me to gain valuable learning experiences. Completing my course work at Lock Haven University paired with my internship in the inclusion and advocacy department at Episcopal Community Services have prepared for my future as a social worker.”

Staff was so wowed by Kathryn’s professionalism and eagerness to help others that her stay has been extended through the summer months to join our WorkReady team. Congratulations, Kathryn, and thank you for your service.
