This spotlight is on Ms. Judith who has partnered with ECS for over 10 years! Read about her story below.
What’s your ECS story?
My ECS story is one rooted in deep connection, growth, and shared values. My relationship with Episcopal Community Services began in 1995 through my nonprofit organization, Teenagers In Charge, Inc., which empowers teens to build self-esteem, heighten cultural and community awareness, and learn how to take charge of their lives. At that time, ECS operated a family shelter, and our teens frequently partnered with them—distributing canned goods and clothing, and including ECS clients in our signature events like Breakfast with Santa and the Warmth in Winter Drive.
Years later, I became a consultant with ECS in 2012, facilitating parenting workshops that support families with practical tools and emotional encouragement. What began as in-person sessions evolved into virtual classes during and after the pandemic, now known as the beloved Parent Connection. From youth engagement to parent empowerment, my journey with ECS reflects a full-circle commitment to community building and transformation.
How long have you been involved with ECS?
I’ve been working with ECS since 2012. Over the years, I’ve partnered with various ECS programs and staff members, and I’ve witnessed firsthand the organization’s deep commitment to supporting individuals and families as they strive toward their personal goals. In addition to facilitating parenting workshops, I also had the opportunity to work part-time in the After School Program, which gave me an even deeper appreciation for the direct impact ECS has on children and youth in our community.
What ECS programs stand out to you?
The parenting support programs truly stand out to me because of the transformative impact they have on families. ECS doesn’t just offer resources—they create environments where parents feel seen, heard, and empowered. The emphasis on generational change and long-term stability is what makes these programs special.
How would you describe ECS to someone who hasn't heard of it?
ECS is a place of hope and transformation. It’s a nonprofit rooted in the belief that every person has the courage, capacity, and will to succeed. Through comprehensive services and a trauma-informed approach, ECS meets people where they are and walks alongside them as they work toward a better future.
When you walk into ECS – what feeling do you get?
I feel welcomed, respected, and inspired. ECS creates a warm and inclusive environment, and there’s a real sense of purpose and compassion that fills the space. You can feel the energy of change and the strength of community the moment you step through the door.
Would you recommend ECS to a friend (either as a participant, volunteer, or donor)?
Absolutely. Whether you're seeking support, looking to give back, or searching for a mission-driven organization to invest in, ECS is a place where your presence will make a difference—and where you'll be moved by the impact happening every day.
